Much Ado About Nothing Paragraph

The shakespeare play "Much Ado About Nothing" is a comedy. More specifically, a comedy of intrigue. It associates love, deception, friendship, loyalty, and humor. Beneath the comedy of intrigue, there is also social comedy in the play as well. Mainly between Beatrice and Benedick. There are many scenes of Beatrice and Benedick bad-mouthing each other, which doesn't seem very funny to most, though Shakespeare makes it humorous by giving hints to the audience that the pair is actually madly in love. There are also many obvious comical scenes, where the characters are laughing and cracking jokes at each other. The play involves a lot of teasing and horseplay between each character. The type of comedy is very classy and cleverly written. Not everyone will find this play funny., but there are a large number of people who understand the dialogue and understand where humor has been inserted.

English Humor Assignment-Reflection

I was inspired to create satirical memes for my humor project because satire is the funniest style of comedy to me. It’s incorporated a lot of funny, comical, shows or movies. People can relate well to everyday situations in life like, being sick, walking the dog, working out, or studying for exams. Being able to relate to things keep s you interested and can make you laugh. It was very easy to create these memes because I related most of the circumstances to my own life, like grade 9 parties, and working out. The website we used was very simple and straight forward too. In creating the memes, I tried to be as accurate and relatable as possible, as well as add a comical spin to the memes. The only new thing I learned, in creating this project, was how to make memes, and how to laugh at myself.
The project did not end in the way Maren and I intended it to. Originally, we had planned to create “whatshouldwecallme’s.” About half way through the project, we decided it was too complicated, and wasn’t working the way we had hoped, so we switched to making memes. I enjoyed making the memes a lot and Maren and I were laughing a lot, at our own memes, and at each other’s. It was amusing to make fun of myself and people like myself. I also loved finding the pictures to go with the captions I set out in each meme. I did not like how disorganized Maren and I were, and thought we could have done a more efficient job in the process of making this project.

Maren and I’s meme creations are funny because everyone can relate to them, and anybody that knows how to laugh at themselves, will probably laugh at these memes. Our goal in making these memes was for people to look at them say “That’s me”, or “Story of my life.” Memes are satirical because they are using sarcasm and over exaggeration to show people what they really do when they go to the gym, or walk the dog for example. Everybody hides things because they are embarrassed and think they are the only one who does them. When they see that actually a lot of people are in the same boat as them, things lighten up, and they can kind of laugh at themselves for being so silly. The meme “When I go to the Gym”, is for people like Maren and I, who go to the gym, pick up a couple two pound weights, roll around on the ball, and go for lunch. Although not everybody will admit it, there are quite a few of those people out there. Of course this meme cannot relate to everybody because there are a lot of people who go to the gym and workout very intensely and seriously. Of course, they probably wouldn’t find our meme funny because they, themselves, cannot relate to it. Our memes incorporated a lot of sarcasm and exaggeration to try and really convey the satire in each meme.

What is Funny to me ?

To me, humour is a lot of things. Satire, parody, practical jokes, irony, wit, and low comedy. I love tv shows like Family Guy, Friends, Big Bang Theory, Two and A Half Men, That 70's Show, and Modern Family. Each of those shows incorporates things like wit, sarcasm, low humour, and jokes where one character teases another. I love joking with my friends, and although sometimes we may take it too far, its usually light hearted, and we all get a good laugh. Jackass, and The Stooges is also quite funny to me. The types of humour I find funny, ranges and as I am getting older, things like people "failing" start to become less and less humorous to me.

Satire Article: Bird flu solved! Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to deport all undocumented birds

http://www.naturalnews.com/013054_bird_flu_satire.html

The article I chose is a satire because when the bird flu was happening, everyone was completely staying away from all kinds of birds, because they didn't want to catch the flu. This article is giving the birds real human qualities and treating them as if they were normal human beings taking a flight somewhere. The article is funny because it says "All birds wishing to enter this country will be required to carry passports, proof of immunizations, and entry visas." Of course, birds do not take planes, nor carry visas, nor passports, but that is why this article is so funny and satirical. Making all the birds go through high security, and arrive with proper travel documentation, just as a human would do. The main point it is poking fun at is the fact that there are so many steps and insurance rules taken, when an individual is getting on a plane. During the Bird flu epidemic, people were so cautious and protective around any birds, just as humans are about bombs and terrorists on planes.

Satire Video: Wii Fit

This video is satirical because the producers of this video took the recently new product "Wii Fit" and made fun of characteristics and features. The video outlines the ridiculousness of this console, explaining that a hoola-hoop is almost exactly the same thing as buying a Wii console.... Just 297 dollars cheaper. The video also displays the outrageousness of the fact that instead of parents enrolling their children in sports or other activities, they're spending hundreds on buying their children a game console, that merely embodies an artificial sport or activity. In a sarcastic manner, the video exclaims that the Wii Fit is "bringing families out of the backyard, and putting them back in front of their television!" The video is clearly making fun of all the people who purchase the Wii Fit, thinking they're getting exercise by "standing in one place", on a little white square.

Angelina Jolie Visits Kenyan School Only to Walk Out Adopting Half the Children

Infamous couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt recently took their six multicultural children on an African safari in the blazing Serengeti of Kenya. While the children were basking in the sun and enjoying the unique sights of all the African animals, Angelina was especially intrigued with the local School Houses on sight. Although this trip was originally planned as a “family” vacation, Angelina spent most of her time with the impoverished children, even going as far as sneaking children into her hotel suite.

The highlight of the trip was their last day spent in Kenya. Angelina brought her family over to the school she had been spending the most time at. Brad thought this was a great idea stating, “I love giving my kids the opportunity to interact with children from other cultures who aren’t as fortunate as them. I think this is something I hope every parent should be able to offer to their children.”

Everything was going swimmingly until on the plane ride home, Brad and Angelina realized the mistake that they had made. The couple had accidentally brought home the wrong children. The pair stated that “The children all look almost identical, and it could have happened to anybody!”

Although the mistake was corrected and Angelina and Brad’s children were returned to them safely, Angelina could not bare to return the Kenyan children she had mistakenly took with her. She ended up adopting the three children she had mistaken for her own. They are now a happy family of eleven. J

International soccer player ACTUALLY injured in match

In last weekend’s epic football match between Chelsea and Manchester United, Chelsea’s star player, Fernando Torres, was carried away on a stretcher half way through the second half. Torres went down hard after a strong nudge in Manchester’s defensive third from key Manchester defensemen, Rio Ferdinand. Torres laid on the field for minutes, before the referee blew the whistle to stop play. Fernando was screaming in agony for what felt like “the longest five minutes in soccer history.”

Chelsea’s trainer hurried onto the field to attend to Torres and pronounced a sprained wrist, ripped fingernail, and symptoms of a major concussion. No date has been revealed as to when Torres will return to the field, as it will be a long and difficult road to recovery for Fernando.
